Our household goods finally arrived! 6 crates, 4 movers, 6 hours and our house is officially a disaster zone. We definitely should have put more in storage. It was hard to know what to bring and what not to, as we had no pictures of the rooms before we got here. Our garage is going to be pretty full I’m thinking. Thank goodness we got one of the houses that have an enclosed garage! Jeff and Matthew got the really important things done last night. The tv’s got mounted in the living room and Matthew’s room, and the gaming systems got hooked up. lol
I did manage to get the kitchen stuff put away for the most part. Still need to organize. Going to work on the “study” today. We decided to not bring our dining room table and use the room as our office/study area. Since we lost a bedroom, there wasn’t going to be anywhere to put our computers and a place for Jeff to study.
The cats have been having a good time with all the boxes and paper. I just have to keep an eye on Missy, who will try to eat anything plastic that she can get ahold of. Zoid!
I put a few pics of the disaster on the Photos/House page.Read More
We went to the double feature at the outside theatre last night. We saw Captain America, followed by the new Harry Potter. Luckily it stopped raining about 10 minutes before the movie started. It did lightning throughout both movies.
Captain America was pretty good. I think Tommy Lee Jones is one of the best actors when it comes to straight-faced humor.
Harry Potter was….ok. Like the ones before it, great special effects. This one felt way too fast and forced I thought. They also left so much of the story out and changed some things from the book, in order to get around the lengthy explanations, I think. The ending was really good, but I didn’t walk away feeling like the story had closed well. Of course, we also walked away soaking wet! There was about 15 minutes of the movie left, and it started to rain lightly. Then it turned into the movie monsoon, lol. About 20-30 of us brave souls finished out the movie. I had brought my sweatshirt jacket, so Jeff and I huddled our heads under it. It helped for about 5 minutes. After that, the only thing it did was keep the rain off our faces so we could still see the screen. All in all, a great night out!
After all, who can say they watched an outdoor movie, in the pouring rain, in Cuba!
On our way to a lookout spot to try and video lightning, we came across two more critters. The first was another very unwelcome tarantula. Aragog was a whole lot bigger than Boris. Probably close to the size of a grapefruit in diameter. There is just something so wrong with the universe. Jeff got some video, but Aragog was moving to fast to get a still photo too. Will try to cut a picture out of the video to post on the critter page.
The second was Nagini. It looked like a boa. Probably a good 4 feet long. Just crossing the road taking its good sweet snake time. I put a picture of it on the Critter page. I don’t mind snakes.Read More
So…..I went in the backyard yesterday to watch the distant lightning. I looked over to the right, and on the fence post…..
Let’s just say that this is not a critter I was happy to spot. Our first tarantula. Jeff came out to take the picture. Then, in order to save his marriage, sent “Boris” to the happy spider place in the sky. He also resized the pic for me to put on the website. Then, he was possessed by the ghost of Boris. My loving husband turned into a maniacal, snickering suckwad. (sorry Mom, but you raised him, so you know I’m telling the truth) The background of my computer, which formerly had had a picture of my granddaughter, was now BORIS.
That has since been corrected, and I’m planning the exorcism of my husband.
I put the pic on the critter page.Read More
Walked out to the backyard this morning and heard this chirping in the tree. There were two owls. I looked online, and from what I can tell I think they are pygmy owls. They are fairly small, so not sure if they are full grown or still young. I put a picture on the critter page.Read More
Friday night we had the most awesome thunderstorm!! Lightning hitting all around…thunder so loud it shook the house. It was raining so hard you couldn’t see across the street. Power went out for a little over an hour and a half. We have heat lightning almost every night. Most of the thunderstorms don’t make it this far in, but stay over the mountains and move parallel to our house, so this was a treat!
Saturday I finally went to the beach. Still waiting on my contacts to get here, so still no snorkeling. We went to Glass Beach and I played beach bum and hunted for sea glass. Sunday we did the same thing, as there was a 6 hour base-wide power outage while they replaced the generators at the power plant. Starting to get a respectable collection of glass. Also got a pretty bad sunburn, even though I put SPF50 on 3 times during the 4 hours we were there! I guess I need to hire a cabana boy to apply every half hour.
Tomorrow is barge day! Our household stuff better be on that barge. We’re really missing our own stuff. (esp beds)
Weather has been in the low 90′s pretty much every day. High humidity is a given. Aka……paradise!!!
Just found out our next door neighbor is originally from Guam! Was nice to reminisce about when we lived there…AND….this weekend she is going to teach me how to make pancit! That was my favorite Guam food. So excited that I’ll be able to make it whenever I want. Maybe I can con her into showing me how to make lumpia too.Read More
Happy 4th a day late!
We went to the fireworks last night. They put on a pretty good show. We didn’t bother watching with the crowd. We found a really good spot up on a hill and had a great view all to ourselves. I put a couple pics on the misc page. Not the best pictures, but the best that our camera could do.
Jeff and Matthew went snorkeling this weekend. Jeff saw a small barracuda! I’m still waiting on my contacts to get here so I can go too. I can’t wait to go to Glass beach. That’s the one spot here where alot of glass washes up. I guess the blue glass is the rarest and the color to look out for.
Added a few pics of our latest outside guest. I still don’t understand the cosmic reason why some insects have to grow so big.
This is barge week!! Really hoping our household goods shipment is on it, or it will be another 2 week wait. Would be great if our car was on it too. “On the barge” is the most used expression here. Just like when we were in Guam. If the grocery or Nex is out of anything and you ask if they have any in the back, the answer is always On the barge.Read More
